I have the hardest time finding foundations that work for me. Either the color doesn’t work or the formula doesn’t work with my combination skin. But I love trying out new foundations and seeing how they work. I have been hearing a lot about the new Nars all day luminous weightless foundation and decided to try it out.
This foundation is definitely on the pricy side at $48. My Sephora had 20 different shades available which is amazing. This foundation is oil free and is said to give full, yet natural looking coverage only using one pump. It is said to be lightweight and wear for 16 hours.
I have combination skin so normally luminous foundations don’t wear well on my oily t-zone. But this foundation claims to be long wearing and is oil free so that made me feel a little more hopeful.
I was matched to the shade Medium 1 Punjab.
I’m a little unsure if this is really the right shade for me. I feel like it is a little too yellow for my skin. I kept feeling like my skin looked a little off, but my husband swore it looked like it always does.
I shook the foundation really well and started with one pump. I warmed it up between my fingers and starting in the center of my face, pressing the foundation into my skin. Let me tell you…I am not against applying foundation with my fingers…but I really didn’t like it with this product. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but it seemed to take a really long time and wasn’t even at all. So I went in with a brush and stippled it around my face to even out the product. I also tried doing this with a makeup sponge, but of course that picked up some of the product.
I tried applying this with a brush and didn’t love it and again with a sponge and, of course, that didn’t work well either. I think I had it right the first time with the finger/stipple brush combo.
This wore really well throughout the day. It looked natural and didn’t make me oily. It didn’t break down much and didn’t need to be touched up. After about 8 hours, I started to get oily and needed to pull out my blotting sheets.
I do think you can get away with just using one pump of product. I need the most coverage around the center of my face anyway and that’s where the majority of the product is going. Of course, if you are looking for more coverage, then you will need to go in with more product. I would be careful though, because using too much product will take away that natural look it provides.
I didn’t feel like I had medium coverage with one pump though. It did even out my skin and covered any redness I had.
Here’s the thing….I really really REALLY wanted to love this product. And I feel kind of bad not loving it because everyone is raving about it. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, maybe my skin is being rebellious, maybe this is my body’s way of telling me this product is way too expensive and to go buy shoes instead. I don’t know. But I did not care for this foundation at all. I didn’t like the way it looked on my skin and didn’t feel like it did anything amazing.
It definitely settled into my fine lines and heavily accentuated any dry patches I had on my skin. In fact, I didn’t even realize I had those dry patches until I wore this foundation. I tried using a primer underneath, and while that did help, it didn’t completely fix things. I just didn’t like the way my face looked and that messed with my confidence throughout the day. *sigh*
I’ll try this a few more times. Maybe I’ll have a change of heart. But chances are…this is heading back to the store.
