Review: Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick in Matte Naked and Matte Confident

I have been on the hunt for the new Milani Moisture Matte lipsticks for a while now. They must be a hit because they are always out of stock. I finally was able to get my hands on two shades and could not be more excited!! I picked up Matte Naked and Matte Confident.

The new Milani lipsticks are infused with grape seed extract (said to be imported from Italy).  They are a matte finish that is also supposed to be long wearing and moisturizing at the same time.  There are eight shades available.  They retail for around $6.

Matte naked is a beautiful medium-toned nude.  It has a little hint of mauve which makes it more wearable.  It doesn’t look “washed out nude”, just more of a natural pinky color.

Matte confident is a gorgeous red shade.  I have stayed away from red lipsticks for so long because they just didn’t look right on me.  But this seems to be perfect because it isn’t too warm not too cool.  It’s a very wearable red that is definitely buildable.  It seemed to go on a bit sheer and I built it up to make it bolder.  I also have to note that this didn’t go on quite as smoothly as matte naked.

I knew something seemed familiar about this shade so I went into my lipstick drawer to investigate.  I realized this shade is remarkably similar to two mac lipsticks I own.

The top swatch is Mac Viva Glam I, the middle is Milani Matte Confident and the bottom is Mac Ruby woo.  Viva Glam I and Milani matte confident are soooo similiar.  Viva Glam I applied much easier and is such a bold color it doesn’t need to be built up.  I had to build up matte confident a bit to get it looking as bold as viva glam I.  But at a fraction of the price, I think it’s worth it!

The formula gives a little moisture, but isn’t overly so.  I love that it doesn’t feel drying and doesn’t leave my lips feeling dry at the end of the day.  I was able to get a few hours of wear out of them before I needed to touch up and re-apply.  Matte Confident also left a bit of a stain on my lips (as well as my arm from the swatch!!!)

My favorite part?  Milani didn’t include that unbearable watermelon scent to the matte line.  I loved their past collection, but couldn’t wear them because they always gave me headaches.  This has a very slight hint of vanilla, but isn’t overpowering.

I love this new line from Milani!  They offer beautiful shades that are opaque and wear well.  I will be stalking my local drugstores looking for other shades to add to my collection!

Try them out!
