Review: Mac Matchmaster Foundation

Happy Mother’s Day lovelies!

I will spending the whole day with my mother, grandmother and sisters.  I am so fortunate to have my mom in my life.  She is the most amazing person I know.  She is not only my mom but my best friend.  🙂 Anyways….

Today’s review is on another foundation from Mac.  I personally haven’t heard much about this foundation and decided to give it a try and see how I felt about it.

$35 for 35 ml/1.2 fl oz.

Available in 12 shades.

Uses Shade Intelligence Technology to bring customized shades in a flawless demi-matte finish with medium, buildable coverage and broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15 protection. Gives perfect colour purity without looking ashy or chalky, reduces shine on the skin’s surface and helps to absorb excess oil. Conditions and soothes skin while minimizing the appearance of pores and imperfections.

This foundation is a little thicker in consistency. Thankfully, this foundation does come with a pump attached which is wonderful!

Application & Coverage:

I use about two pumps and achieve a little less than medium coverage.  This is buildable…to a certain extent.  I found it very easy to blend.  I prefer using a beauty blender with this product because it is a little thicker.  If you use a brush it can get a little streaky.  This applies flawlessly and quickly with a sponge.

I love that this feels really lightweight.  It also gave my skin a beautiful satin matte finish.  The foundation made my skin look radiant while keeping my oil under control.

Keep in mind that if you intend to layer this product, it will not feel so lightweight (just thought I’d throw that out there).

It does cling to dry patches so if you have dry skin beware.  I would say this is perfect for those with normal or combination skin.

Lasting Power:

This holds up fairly well throughout the day.  I do notice a little wear, but nothing too noticeable.  It does a pretty good job of keeping oil at bay and I didn’t notice too much shine either.  I usually blot 1-2 times throughout the day with this product.

Breakouts/Allergic Reactions:

Thankfully, this product didn’t break me out.  I know many others have had issues with Mac foundations.  Since I have such sensitive skin, I’m surprised I have not had any issues thus far.  I will say…this foundation does have a strong paint-like smell to it.  It doesn’t bother me since the smell does not linger, but for others who are also sensitive, this may be too strong for your liking.

Overall Thoughts:

I was matched to the shade 3.0 which I think works well for me.  This foundation is meant to adjust to your skins undertone (hence…matchmaster).

Even though this has an spf of 15 it photographed well.  I wouldn’t wear it on a day where I knew I would be photographed a lot simply because I prefer using a foundation with zero spf for those occasions.

All in all, I am really pleased with this foundation.  It gives my skin a beautiful luminosity while also keeping me from being too oily and gets me through a typical day.  I also love that it has a pump so I don’t have to buy one.

Have you tried this out?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Have a beautiful and wonderful day everyone!

xoxo Lizzie ♥

How many times per day do you usually blot with other foundations? (Is 1-2 very few?) My skin is oily and definitely does not handle all foundations well, so maybe this would be a good fit for me!

    1. I tend to use foundations that are oil controlling and long wearing. I have combination skin and my t-zone area can be really oily. So with those I usually blot 1-2 times a day. With any other foundation it’s definitely a lot more!
Have you tried Estée Lauder double wear foundation? That stuff is amazing and gets me through the whole day with minimal oil and stays put.
