Review: Maybelline 100th Anniversary Lipsticks

A few days ago, I was walking around Rite-Aid and stumbled upon a display I’ve never seen before.

I’ve heard a lot about Maybelline’s 100th Anniversary, but didn’t know they were going to release some makeup to celebrate!
I cannot believe Maybelline has been around for 100 years! That’s incredible!
I saw lipsticks, eyeshadow duos, baby lips balms, nail polish, bb cream, mascara and more. Most of them are existing products, but are housed in a cute “celebratory” design.

Since I have a little bit of a lipstick obsession, I decided to pick up the shades that were available.  My store was out of one lipstick and when I went around looking for it at other store, the whole collection was sold out!

I should point out that out of the four lipsticks I purchased, only two are actually new shades.

  How cute is that packaging?!!?

Strike A Rose and Purposeful Mauve are the new colors added.

(Left to Right: Strike A Rose, Purposeful Mauve, Magenta-Bulous, Coral Cocktail)  (Top to Bottom: Strike A Rose, Purposeful Mauve, Magenta-Bulous, Coral Cocktail)

Price:

I paid $9.49 each.

Consistency and Application:

Very creamy.  I was impressed with them.  Although, I have always loved Maybelline lipsticks so I guess it’s no surprise!

The lighter colors needed to be built up while the darker colors were very nicely pigmented.  As you can see from the swatches, none of the colors were extremely opaque, but I don’t mind that at all.

Performance:

Each felt very lightweight and comfortable on my lips.  They weren’t long wearing, although Magenta-bulous did stay on better and left a little bit of a stain behind (because it’s a deeper shade).

I did have to re-apply throughout the day and touch up after meals.

Scent:

If you’ve ever owned a Maybelline lipstick, it has that same scent.  I don’t know if it’s actually an added fragrance or if it’s just that “lipstick” smell, but it isn’t offensive.

Overall Thoughts:

I love this packaging and I love the lipstick shades.

I think Maybelline did a fantastic job picking out two new shades that would be flattering on a mass number of people.

Strike a rose is a beautiful frosty pink.  I normally don’t prefer colors like this, but I think it works.  I just apply it lightly so the shimmer isn’t too much on me.  But it just makes my skin glow because of the gold shimmer.

I should also note that it doesn’t feel gritty with the shimmer.  It is still very creamy and comfortable to wear.

Purposefully Mauve is a beautiful nude shade.  Again, I don’t typically love nude shades like this, but it is so flattering on.  It didn’t wash me out, but I did apply lightly.

The only lipstick I couldn’t track down was “Berry Chic” which is the color I was most excited about.  😦

Not that I need another lipstick, but you know….

Hope you are all having a beautiful and wonderful day!

xoxo Lizzie♥
