Make Up For Ever’s original HD foundation will always bring fond memories for me. I wore this foundation when I got engaged. I choose to wear it for our engagement pictures and again on our wedding day.
Then I heard they were discontinuing that formula and replacing it with a 4K version. I was curious to see what the new foundation would be like so I purchased it.
$43 for 1.01 fl. oz
Available in 40 shades.
I purchased Y335 (which is the equivalent to the original #127)
What it is:
A bestselling HD foundation that appears more invisible, comfortable, and natural-looking than ever.
What it does:
Developed specifically for the film and TV industry’s most advanced technology, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation creates a naturally flawless complexion—on and off camera. Completely invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens, this revolutionary foundation features uniquely-coated pigments that provide medium coverage with a lightweight texture that looks just like skin. Long-lasting with a natural-looking finish, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation is formulated with hyaluronic spheres for time-released hydration that ensures comfortable wear on all skin types. Now available in an expanded range of 40 shades to match all skintones, Ultra HD is the perfect everyday foundation for a flawless complexion—and an unretouched life.
I think it is amazing that MUFE added an additional 16 shades to this line.
If a shade has “Y” it is a yellow undertone and “R” is a red undertone.
The packaging looks the same except for the sleek silver band underneath the lid. The original formula didn’t have the band on it. I actually like the way it looks. It looks modern and futuristic. It makes me think this is the foundation of the future (cheesy I know!)
And yay for a pump!!!!
I have combination skin (oily t-zone and dry/normal everywhere else) and also have sensitive skin.
I have a medium skin tone. Here are some of my foundation shades just for comparison.

This has a thinner consistency than the original HD formulation. I would still say it has a medium thickness and doesn’t run down.
The new Ultra HD foundation gives slightly less coverage than the original. You can definitely build it up to a full coverage, but I find one layer gives me a decent medium coverage.
I didn’t notice any added scent to this foundation.
I had to apply the original foundation with a sponge because it had a thicker formula. With this new Ultra HD formulation I actually prefer using a brush. The brush allows me to get as much coverage as I can and yet blends easily and evenly.
It set into my skin nicely and didn’t dry too quickly.
I also didn’t notice it settling into fine lines/wrinkles and didn’t accentuate dry patches.
It gives a natural/satin-matte finish.
Another thing I love more about this formulation is that it sets nicely into my skin. The old formula just sat there and felt tacky all day.
I wouldn’t say this dries to a powder finish, but it definitely isn’t tacky and bothersome.
This started to break down around hour 8 (which is pretty good in my book). The wear was minimal and easily concealed with some powder.
This is a HUGE improvement over the original. With that one my foundation started breaking down around hour 3/4 which is just ridiculous!
Around hour 5 I did get a little oily and shiny.
This was the worst thing about the original formula. I would break out every time I wore it! It was so thick and heavy- my skin felt suffocated underneath.
This new formula is much lighter and has a thinner consistency and my skin had zero reaction!
I am pleasantly surprised with this new foundation! It has all the pros of the original formula and they definitely improved all the cons.
The biggest thing I loved with the original foundation was the way it photographed! Every picture made my skin looked airbrushed and yet natural.
I’m happy to report that this foundation photographs just as well (if not better). My husband took pictures of me (using a 4K camera) while wearing this new foundation and we looked at the pictures on a 4K screen.
Usually every flaw is brought out in 4K, but my skin looked flawless!!!
I don’t know that I would make this foundation my everyday/go-to, but when I know I’ll be photographed…uh yes please!
I’m so happy MUFE has improved their HD foundation!
Have you tried this out? How did it work for you?
Wishing you all a beautiful and wonderful day!
