Review: Buxom Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick

Buxom is one of my favorite brands for lip products.

I have yet to be disappointed by anything they put out (or at least what I’ve tried so far).

When I saw their new lipsticks at Sephora I knew I had to try them out!

$22 for .09 oz

Available in 30 different shades!!!!

What it is:
A lightweight gel lipstick with bold, one-stroke color in matte and satin finishes.

What it does:
Swipe lips with this vividly graphic, ultra-bold lipstick. It delivers intensely pigmented, one-stroke color in an ultra-lightweight gel formula. Featuring moisturizing matte and satin finishes, it leaves lips with a modern, daring look.

I love the packaging!  It is magnetic so the lid “snaps” right into place.  It’s a semi strong magnet.  I don’t think it’s accident proof, but it is better than your standard lipstick design.

I also love the subtle difference in the finish of the packaging.  The matte lipsticks have a matte black finish while the satin lipsticks have a shiny black finish.

My only con about the packaging is it’s a tad bulky.  It’s definitely thicker than your standard tube of lipstick so it’s not so easy to throw in a smaller clutch or stuff in your pocket.  But that’s just me being super picky!

I decided to pick up one matte shade and one satin.

I choose Evocative Petal (Matte) and Sultry Mauve (Satin).

I found both lipstick finishes were really smooth and didn’t tug at my lips.  They are a little more sheer in color so don’t expect a super opaque product with just one swipe.

If I build it up (using 2-3 layers) then I get a more opaque color.  I do like having that option though.  I can get a subtle flush of color or easily build it up.

They have a yummy warm/sweet scent to them.  It doesn’t linger and I didn’t find it offensive.

The other thing to note is the size of the actual lipstick.  It is thicker also which makes precise application a little difficult.

Even though evocative petal is a matte, is doesn’t have that uncomfortable dryness of a matte lipstick.  It didn’t settle into my lip lines.  I almost think of it as more of a satin/matte.  It has the slightest sheen to it, but is still mostly matte.  It’s really beautiful!

Sultry mauve has a beautiful glossiness to it!

Staying power wasn’t great with either product.

Evocative Petal did leave a bit of a stain behind which was beautiful.

I re-applied the product twice throughout the day.

I do like this product, but it doesn’t blow me away.  There are other (less expensive) lipsticks out there that have similar formulas and colors.

Because of this I’m not planning on purchasing additional colors.

What do you guys think?  Would you give it a try?

Wishing you a beautiful and wonderful day!

xoxo Lizzie♥
