Back in July I received the Coola Makeup Setting Spray in my Birchbox.
I will leave you guys the review here if you are interested:
The product sounded perfect for summer! It was said to leave a matte finish, set your makeup, control oil and provide an SPF all in one!
Unfortunately for me, that product wasn’t all that perfect. The scent was unappealing and it stung my lips and face.
I was perusing Sephora the other day and came across another product that was extremely similar.
So what did I do? I purchased it!
Available in two sizes:
1 oz $12 (the size I purchased)
3.4 oz $28
An innovative three-in-one mist that sets makeup, helps control oil and shine, and refreshes your defense against UV rays with an uplifting scent of rosemary and mint.
The first thing I noticed about this product is the spray nozzle.
The Coola nozzle gave out on me after only a few uses. It wouldn’t spray anything and no matter what I tried, wouldn’t start working again.
The Supergoop pump is much sturdier and thicker.
Simple enough right?
I love that there are beads in the bottle which you can hear shaking around when moving the bottle up and down.
I know that this helps to mix everything evenly which I appreciate.
Let’s start with the scent.
I think it’s a lot more mild than the Coola setting mist. I also like the fact that it doesn’t sting my lips and face! Major plus!
I would recommend leaving your eyes closed for a few seconds after you’ve sprayed it just to avoid irritation.
Secondly, let’s cover the makeup setting claim.
This didn’t prolong the wear of my makeup. So I don’t think it’s that kind of setting spray.
It did, however, break up my makeup and make it look softer and more blended (a.k.a. no cake face).
Thirdly, the oil control.
This was the part that worried me a bit. Usually products that claim to control oil do this by adding alcohol in their products.
Alcohol definitely dried out the skin and controls oil in that way. But, that’s not something you want to do too often.
I do love the idea of being able to continuously spray an SPF based product on my face throughout the day.
It is so difficult to protect my face when I’m wearing makeup. It’s not like I can re-apply a liquid sunscreen over my foundation.
I think this product is a step in the right direction, but it’s not something I would want to use on an everyday basis.
If anyone has suggestions on other products that are similar to this, please let me know.
I’m even wondering if using a spray sunscreen would work just as well.
Wishing you a beautiful and wonderful day!
